About
Puntukas is one of the largest and best-known boulders in Lithuania, lying in the Anykščiai pine grove by the Šventoji River. Legend says the devil was carrying it to smash the Anykščiai church, but dropped it here when a rooster crowed.
In 1943 the sculptor Bronius Pundzius carved a bas-relief of the aviators Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas into the stone, along with the words of their testament. It is one of the most photographed spots in Anykščiai and pairs well with the Treetop Walking Path and a walk through the pine grove.
Tip: From the Treetop Walking Path car park, Puntukas is a short walk along a forest trail.
