About
St. Matthew's Church is a neo-Gothic red-brick church in the centre of Anykščiai, built in 1899–1909. Its spires reach 79 metres – among the tallest church towers in Lithuania, visible from far around the town.
The church appears in Antanas Baranauskas's poem "Anykščių šilelis" and in the works of Antanas Vienuolis. Visitors can climb to the viewing platform in the tower to see the town and the bends of the Šventoji from above.
Tip: Tower visits are not possible during services – check the opening times before you go.
